Job Summary:

Delivers direct patient care in collaboration with a physician, which includes identification, management and/or referral of health problems. Promotes consumer, family, or community health through preventative health care actions and through patient advocacy. The nurse practitioner may also manage complex illnesses and deliver specialty care.
Life Flight: Responsible for advanced emergency and critical care patient management during air and ground transport of the critically ill or injured patient from the scene or outlying sites to participating secondary and tertiary care institutions. Provides intensive care monitoring, critical care intervention and advanced surgical skill procedures to critically ill and injured patients. This includes the management of high-risk obstetrical, medical, surgical, respiratory and cardiovascular patients. The specialized training of the Flight Nurse Practitioner allows for the provision of care to critically ill and injured patients through the use of ventilatory support, continuous cardiac and hemodynamic monitoring, including intra-aortic balloon pump. Airway management and surgical skill interventions as approved through privileging by The MetroHealth System.

Upholds the standards of the system-wide customer service program.

Required Qualifications:

Graduate of an accredited nurse practitioner program.
Current registered nurse licensure in the state of Ohio.
Certificate of Authority as an Advanced Practice Nurse from the Ohio Board of Nursing.
Current BLS Certification or obtains within 90 days of hire.

For Palliative Care:
Experience in hospice/palliative care
Skills in pain and symptom management
Interdisciplinary team work

Meets the requirement/qualifications for clinical privileges with The MetroHealth System and must report to Medical Staff Office at time of hire to apply for clinical privileges.
Maintains privileges.
Maintains a standard care arrangement and renew/sign it annually.
For Life Flight Nurse Practitioner:
Minimum of five years recent, active nursing experience in a critical-care unit, some of which can be in the Emergency Department
Must have and maintain all required certifications in BLS, ACLS, and PALS.
Within six (6) months of hire, ATLS (or accepted equivalent).and obtain NRP certification.
Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Certification
Must be able to lift 50 pounds and work in outside environment during inclement weather as needed to provide patient care.
Have or be able to apply for a Certificate to Prescribe/Externship from the Ohio Board of Nursing

Preferred Qualifications:

MSN
Have or be able to apply for a Certificate to Prescribe/Externship from the Ohio Board of Nursing.
For Life Flight Nurse Practitioner:
Previous NP critical care experience
A board certification as a Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN), Critical-Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) or Certified Flight Registered Nurse (CFRN).
EMT-B/I/P state of Ohio
Prehospital, flight and/or critical care transport experience
Familiarity and utilization of human patient simulation education and training


For Palliative Care:
Certification in hospice/palliative care

Note: Unit specific qualifications for nurse practitioners will be addressed through the Certificate of Authority and credentialing process.
